Talk about making an impressive debut!
gridoon202421 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Having orchestrated Sloane's "death and resurrection", Jack enlists him to find "The Passenger" with the help of the Rambaldi device called "The Hourglass". Meanwhile, Vaughn learns that his father was also a Rambaldi follower who was killed while trying to free "The Passenger" from KGB custody, and then he is kidnapped and tortured by Sark and Lauren for any new information he may have. This is the episode where we finally meet "The Passenger", who turns out to be an agent working for Argentinian Intelligence. She is played by Mía Maestro, and wow, can you say "love at first sight"? Not only does she look spectacular, but she also bears a striking resemblance to Lena Olin, who, of course, was playing her on-screen mother in Season 2. Her character also has a few tricks up her sleeve....the scene where she snaps out of her pretended catatonia and fights the prison guards alongside Sydney is perhaps the most purely satisfying moment in the series since Irina, Jack and Sydney were all together saving the world in Season 2's "Passage". Besides Mia's great casting, this episode offers plenty of twists and turns, from Lauren displaying some remaining traces of humanity (or does she?) to Sloane demonstrating just how important it is for him to listen to Rambaldi's "ultimate" message. The only reason I'm not rating "Blood Ties" even higher is Sydney's unbelievably easy entrance into the prison. *** out of 4.

Sydney finds her sister
Tweekums7 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
As series three draws to a close many of the plot lines have been fully revealed; Vaughn knows that his wife is a Covenant agent, Sloane has revealed that his daughter, Sydney's half sister is the passenger and he is free from CIA custody. This doesn't mean the action is over though; Sydney must still find her sister and Vaughn must keep a secret from his wife and Sark.

As this episode opens Sydney learns that Sloane is alive and he tells her that to find her sister she must steal a Rambaldi artefact from the Smithsonian. Of course it won't be a simple break in; to access the vault she needs a retinal scan from the five members of The Trust. Once she acquires the object things get even harder for her as it reveals her sister is in a prison in Chechnya. While she goes there to rescue her she doesn't know that the Covenant have a lead to her location as well. An old friend of Vaughn's father told him how his father died protecting the Passenger and told him where she was, unfortunately before he can act on the information he is captured and tortured by Sark.

Even though most of the questions posed in the season have been answered the season remains as exciting as ever as it approaches its dénouement. There is a well choreographed fight scene as Sydney and her sister Nadia break of of the prison, some tense scenes as Vaughn is tortured and once again it appears that Sloane has betrayed the trust placed in him.
