Sloane comes clean
Tweekums2 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This episode opens with Sydney and Rachel acquiring a key-card in Rome; an item that Gordon Dean is keen to get his hands on. He tasks Sloane to retrieve it little knowing that Sloane has already come clean to APO after learning that there is little prospect of Nadia recovering. Sloane agrees to help Dean but after the handover APO capture Dean and set about interrogating him back at headquarters. It looks as if things are going well until a stranger approaches Sloane; he is part of Dean's organisation and he wants Sloane to kill him... he refuses until he gets a call from the hospital telling him that Nadia has awakened.

This episode might not have had quite as much action as the last but it was still pretty entertaining; once again it is hard to tell whether Sloane is a good guy again or just looking for a way to serve his own aims; Sloane could so easily be a pantomime villain if it wasn't for Ron Rifkin's fine performance. It was nice to see Rachel get the better of Gordon Dean; it is just a pity that we won't see any more of Tyrees Allen in the role... at least his former sidekick Kelly Peyton, played by the excellent Amy Acker survives. It was good to learn a little bit more about Prophet Five although they are still very much a shadowy organisation.

He is still conscious? Hit him again

Warning: Spoilers
Sydney and Renée intercept an access card that was meant for Gordon Dean. He wants it back, and he tasks Sloane to get it. But Sloane, desperate over Nadia showing no signs of improvement, confesses his "arrangement" with Dean to Jack and Sydney, and offers to help APO arrest him, by using the access card as bait. The mission succeeds, but when Sloane discovers that Dean's organization mysteriously has the power to help Nadia peacefully wake up from her coma, he agrees to carry out a highly risky "assignment" on their behalf - but their demands won't stop there....Another solid episode that continues to prove season 5 is, so far, superior to season 4 at the very least, and may rank even higher when all is said and done. Renée's fight with one of Dean's men at the start is terrific, the entire "capture Dean" mission is exciting, and Sloane's situation is beginning to look like quicksand - the more he tries to get out of it, the deeper he sinks in. Nice humorous / sentimental touch at the end with Jack, Sydney and her baby's crib. *** out of 4.

CIA are pure evil; MKUltra anyone?

Straight out of the CIA handbook; MKUltra and Operation Midnight. If only it was as effective in real life as it was in this episode.
