I Confess
gridoon202431 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
When a man gets crystallized and shatters into a million pieces while transferring (by swallowing it, the idiot) a new biological weapon, ICE-5, Sydney, Vaughn and Dixon are sent to the hospital where he was working and where it is believed that ICE-5 is being developed and tested. The initial objective is to take some samples, but when the situation turns out to be even worse than expected, Vaughn devises a daring plan to shut down ICE-5's production: disguised as a priest, he contacts a nurse at the hospital who also happens to be the sister of the man who is producing the weapon, and tries to turn her against her brother so that she can help them. To do this, he calls her to a confession, but it soon turns into HIS confession, talking about his guilt over killing Lauren, no matter how evil she was, and his visions of her that are keeping him awake at nights. This is really Vaughn's episode: Michael Vartan does some of his finest work in the entire series here, especially in his long confessional monologue, and guest star Kelly MacDonald manages to create a memorable character. Our first view of what ICE-5 does is a genuine shock, and near the end there is a great special effects shot of an eye getting "iced-up". Certainly this weapon is a much more frightening threat than the computer of the previous episode, but I still say that the (temporary) abandonment of Rambaldi, after so much setup in the previous seasons, is a mistake. *** out of 4.

One of my favourite episodes
Tweekums31 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This episode opens with Sydney and the APO team meeting a man in an Algerian souq, he claims to be selling a weapon but he can't hand it over as he has swallowed it. Before the discussions can go any further they realise he was followed and attempt to extract him. Something strange happens though as he runs his leg snaps off below the knee and before anybody can comment he is shot and shatters into hundreds of pieces! Among the remains a small capsule is found; it contained 'Ice Five' a chemical that almost instantly freeze-dries anybody it comes into contact with. It is believed that a man called Keene is manufacturing it in a charity hospital in Macedonia. Sydney goes in undercover and Vaughn tries to get to know one of the women doctor's by going in disguised as a Catholic priest. It turns out that she is Keene's brother so Vaughn tries to turn her against him as he senses she wants to get away from him. In doing this he ends up talking about the recent painful events in his own life as he too was betrayed by somebody he loved.

This might not be the most action packed episode but it is one of my favourites, this is largely down to the emotional scenes between Michael Vartan who plays Vaughn and Kelly MacDonald, of 'Trainspotting' fame, who plays Keene's sister Kiera MacLaine; both actors did brilliantly in their scenes together. While I mentioned that it isn't the most action packed episode it does have a couple of good fight sequences and when the man shatters it is as impressive as it is shocking

Hidden meaning??
lgunit-726401 January 2021
Season 4 Episode 4 has a photo of Irina holding a baby. The picture keeps changing from the baby held by her right arm and changes to her left arm. I'm just curious if I missed a hidden meaning or something. Note: What a great series! I can't get enough of it!!

Please do research on accents
t-skitmore25 January 2009
I can't believe the stupid mistake made in this episode, the nurse (McClaine) who is clearly Scottish and speaks with a Scottish accent is supposed to be the sister of the IRISH guy, who clearly speaks with an Irish accent . Then someone comments that she used to be a member of the IRA, since when have Scottish people ever been members of the Irish Republican Army? I then see from Google that they are both genuine, she was born on Glasgow Scotland and he was born in Belfast Ireland DUH! Is this as I expect, that Americans can't tell the difference between the two accents? If that's the case I would have thought that the directors and /or the casting directors would know the difference. If there was a reason for this and it was not a mistake will someone please let me know what the reason was. Thanks
