Warning: Spoilers
It looks as if Lauren's cover has has been blown when Jack investigates her activities and discovers that she has been in various unauthorised locations at the same time as the Covenant have been active there. When the Covenant finds out they come up with a solution which should both clear her and strengthen her faltering marriage; she just has to kill her father, a senator, and let people think she was working at his behest on what she thought was a secret government agent. While Lauren is busy covering her tracks Sydney and Vaughn are searching for the keys which open the Rambaldi box, this involves shoot outs in an embassy and diving to the undersea vault where the keys were hidden.

The action was exciting as always and it is nice to see the Covenant appear to be coming out on top for a change; even though we know that this is just raising the stakes to make their ultimate defeat all the more satisfying. While Sydney's story had most of the action Lauren's was more interesting as it looked as if she was about to lose her husband and get exposed as a traitor unless she kills her father and ruins his reputation; when the moment of truth arrives it turns out she has a surprising ally.

Two birds with one stone

Warning: Spoilers
Lauren has two serious problems: Vaughn is thinking of leaving her, and Jack is already investigating her activities during the last couple of months, suspecting that she may be the Covenant mole inside the CIA. Sark proposes a solution to both problems: kill her father, Senator Reed (who, unlike the other new authority figure of this season, NSC Director Lindsey, is revealed to be not a hypocritical SOB but a noble man) which will simultaneously ensure Vaughn's compassion and give the CIA their "true" mole who got poor innocent and deceived Lauren implicated. She refuses initially, but the Covenant's reach is pretty long. Meanwhile, there is a race for the keys that will open the Rambaldi box that the Covenant acquired in the previous episode: Sydney and Vaughn on one side, Sark and Bomani (remember him?) on the other. Good but not outstanding episode. Interesting to see a minor one-episode character from season 1 make an unexpected return as Vaughn's contact. *** out of 4.

Forensics sucked in this episode

Warning: Spoilers
This was 2004, CSI was already on the air, they should have figured out by the trajectory of the bullet that it wasn't suicide. When they said the forensics checked out I was so disappointed in this episode. Usually everything is more buttoned up.
