Dylan and Rev Bem are asked to help protect an unusual settlement from slavers
Tweekums16 May 2018
In this episode Rev Bem is contacted by Brother Thaddeus Blake, his former religious master. He wants help protecting a settlement of Wayists from the slavers who prey on them. Andromeda is needed to assist at another planet so Dylan and Rev Bem head to the settlement in the Eureka Maru. When they Dylan sets about training the locals to fight off the slavers; Brother Thaddeus objects. It turns out these people have genetic memory; they remember all of their parents, grandparents, etc. memories till birth and Thaddeus doesn't want future generations to remember how to kill. Having observed that the slavers are frightened of Rev Bem one of the settlers comes up with a radical potential solution. Back on Andromeda acting captain Beka realises that Tyr and his associates are stealing aid materials.

This was a solid episode where we get some decent character development for certain main cast members as well as an interesting 'guest society'. Some interesting moral questions are raised after Thaddeus acts to prevent the settlers using advanced weapons... he may be their spiritual leader but does that give him the right to make such a decision. There are also questions about whether the one settler's radical solution will save or doom their community. The cast do a solid job; most notably Brent Stait as Rev Bem and Mark Holden and Moya O'Connell as Brother Thaddeus and settler Tiama respectively. Overall a good action packed main story with some interesting ideas and an okay secondary story to explain why Andromeda couldn't be used to easily solve the settlers' problems.
