As this, the first part of the two-part season finale, opens with Andromeda rescuing an unarmed ship from former Commonwealth attackers. On board the ship is the ambassador from Arkology, a pacifist society, who believes he has negotiated a peace with the approaching Magog. Shortly afterwards he collapses and dies... he was infested by Magog. Andromeda returns to Arkology with the ambassador's pilot. Arkology is a vast space ship in orbit around a planet; it is totally unarmed and unwilling to believe that they are in danger. Dylan tries to persuade them that they must leave but his arguments fall on deaf ears.
This is a solid opening to a two-part story. It is good that after so long the Magog world ship is finally arriving and the fact that the first society they are going to encounter are totally unprepared for any threat only adds to the tension. The society of Arkology aren't too unrealistic; it is entirely believable that a society that has had centuries of peace would think talking with potential enemies can solve all problems. We get a major revelation about Dylan, something he didn't know, which may be a bit too much for some viewers; without going into details I think I'll hold off judgement until more is learnt in future episodes. Being a two-parter it isn't surprising that the end is a dramatic cliff-hanger with the Magog attacking and it looking as if the crew may become divided... all leading me to anticipate the concluding part. Overall a fine start to the story.
