Does a new ally have sinister motives?
Tweekums19 July 2018
As this episode begins Dylan and his crew are investigating the disappearance of a human colony. They are attacked by the Genites and pinned down. Things aren't looking good then another force arrives and defeats the Genites. This force are The Templers; a group founded around the time the Commonwealth fell that is led by an imposing man known as 'The Patriarch'. He explains that the Genites have been developing genetic weapons that will kill all Nietzscheans and genetically modified humans. He proposes an attack on the Genite lab that is creating the weapon. As the mission goes ahead Dylan learns that The Patriarch's motives aren't quite what they appeared to be.

This is a solid episode with plenty of action; it also features possibly the most high profile guest star to date. Michael Ironside appears as The Patriarch and dominates every scene he is in. His character is nicely ambiguous and provides a genuinely surprising twist towards the end of the episode. There are numerous action scenes; mostly shootouts but also an impressive planetary bombardment as Andromeda, under Tyr's command, attacks another Genite facility. The Templars were a nice addition to the series; I hope they don't turn out to be a single-episode group. Overall a good episode that was made even better thanks to Michael Ironside's guest appearance.

Machiavellian, Tactical and nearly "1st Season" Worthy in Execution
bryanogilvie31 July 2021
Strong guest appearance, secondary leading / visiting actor. Plot structure adds advanced Machiavellian theme and consistent "tactical" element to the progression of scenes. The first episode, to my recall, in which Sorbo admits / resigns to feeling defeated, with yet a surprise twist at the end. A refreshingly complex and engaging, well-designed script for this far into the show; almost reminiscent of the first season in fact, particularly in how it utilizes (and advances) series canon.
