According to Andy Hallett, it was during the filming of this episode that the cast and crew were given the news that the show was canceled. It was in fact during the previous episode, as stated in the DVD commentary for that episode, just after the scene in the basement.
Connor informs Angel that he is attending Stanford University. In Dad (2001), Angel makes it known that he wants Connor to attend the University of Notre Dame. The football teams at these universities are rivals and meet annually to play for the Legends Trophy.
Throughout the episode, Illyria repeatedly asks Wesley if one's perception of the world determines who s/he and others are and if changing that perception makes them someone else. The correlation between memory and identity is a frequent subject brought up in many of Joss Whedon's works, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) and Dollhouse (2009) (the latter revolves entirely around this philosophical quandary).
When Connor meets Illyria, he mentions he always had a thing for older women, to which Angel mutters under his breath, "They were supposed to fix that," thus revealing part of Angel's deal with Wolfram & Hart. This refers to Connor's relationship with Cordelia, who was older than Connor and a love interest of Angel at the time.
This episode marks the only time Connor and Spike appear in the same scene together. In Angel: After the Fall and its tie-ins, revealing Spike's knowledge of Connor's parentage thus each other's relations in vampire bloodline, indicating that Spike had learned about Connor at some point off-screen after this episode.
