Jaime Bergman who plays Amanda is married to David Boreanaz. Of the experience, Boreanaz says, "[it was] great to have her come on to the show, and have our son look at that, and see the two of us actually play opposite one another for a brief moment." He adds, "We had fun with it. It was nothing too serious, it was just a small little role, a laugh."
While telling Amanda about the Fell Brethren, Gunn comments that their leader makes Jim Jones "look like a Sunday school teacher." Jones was the leader of the Peoples Temple cult, which became notorious in 1978 for the mass suicide of its members; in total, 909 people died at the Jonestown settlement in Guyana, and the incident was the greatest single loss of American civilian life until the September 11 attacks in 2001.
Once again it is stated how humanity is overcoming demons, Illyria saying that 'adaptation is compromise' and Spike pointing out that humans have the values of 'learning and the Internet'. This is similar to his discussion with Angel in School Hard (1997) where he states that "Demons don't change".
