When the maintenance worker (executive producer, J. Michael Straczynski) shut down the lights, everyone on the set was in tears.
The final episode, "Sleeping in Light", which aired at the end of the fifth and final season, was actually filmed at the end of the fourth season. At the time that production on the fourth season wrapped, it was still unclear whether a fifth season would be produced or if the show would be canceled. When the show was renewed, they filled the last slot in the fourth season with a new episode, and showed Sleeping in Light at the end of the series. This was practical because the events of Sleeping in Light take place 20 years after the other episodes.
The toast to absent friends mentions those who have died. They were: G'Kar and Londo, who killed each other due to Drakh influence; Lennier, who was killed in action during the Telepath War; and Marcus Cole, who gave his life so that Susan Ivanova could live.
In a deleted scene, Ivanova is shown looking over some items in her office before departing for Minbar, including her old Starfury helmet, and Marcus's fighting pike, which she has held onto for 20 years.
The final shot of the cast and crew with the fleet of White Star ships flying overhead was shot against a blue screen, therefore everyone who was to be on set for the day was told not to wear anything blue. Jason Carter arrived wearing jeans and a blue shirt.
