"Landmark" was the series finale for BARNEY MILLER, broadcast over a period of three weeks in Apr-May 1982, more than seven years since the show's Jan 1975 debut. The detectives at the 12th Precinct are stunned to learn that ever since Wojo discovered that old rifle in the basement (in the previous episode "Bones"), the building has been designated a historical landmark up for sale to the highest bidder, with Victoria Hoffline (Susan Tolsky, second of two), from the State Division for Historic Preservation, informing Barney that his office, and the rifle, once belonged to Theodore Roosevelt (Dietrich: "bully for you!"). Al Ruscio (fourth of five) plays Jack Norrell, who also appears in the following episode, hoping to buy the building for his company. Philip Sterling (last of six) plays Howard Spangler, a former hostage for 18 months with a rebel group in South America, lamenting that his story was never told on NIGHTLINE (he confuses bail for ransom). Spangler's business associate (James Gallery, second of two) admits his company wanted to pay the ransom to get him back, but that the government wouldn't allow it. Mr. Dozier (Keith Langsdale) puts the heat on Harris after he was held up at an ATM by a knife wielding assailant (Pepe Serna). Harris confesses he has a history of NOT helping people in trouble!
