- Jan needs glasses but doesn't want to wear them because of how they make her look--until she has an accident that destroys Mike's surprise anniversary gift to Carol, a framed portrait of the Brady kids.
- Mike and Carol receive disturbing news of an eyewitness account that Jan stole someone else's bicycle from the park. Upon investigating, they find that it was all a misunderstanding as the bicycle that Jan took looks almost exactly like her own and thus she thought it was hers. But when Mike and Carol receive some more bad news about Jan - a note from her teacher that she is unfocused in class and as a result her grades are slipping - they discover what the culprit for all these problems with Jan is: her eyesight. Jan is mortified to learn that she will need glasses, which she feels will make her look goofy, especially troublesome as she is trying to attract one of her male classmates. As such, Jan tries at every turn not to wear her glasses. Jan learns her lesson about the need to wear her glasses as she gets into an accident while riding her bicycle without wearing her glasses. Although she is unharmed, she ruins the photograph of her and her siblings that Mike was going to give to Carol for their third wedding anniversary. Jan does whatever she can to replace the photo without her father's knowledge, which because of the scatterbrained photographer, requires the six kids to take another photograph. Other obstacles include coming up with enough money to pay for the new photograph especially as all the kids are broke having bought their own anniversary gifts, all the kids being able to sneak out of the house in their good clothes, and remembering the continuity between the first photograph and the retake.—Huggo

- Mike and Carol's wedding anniversary is approaching and Mike wants to surprise her with a portrait of their children. In order to create a diversion, Alice fakes a toothache and asks Carol drive her to the dentist, while Mike takes the kids to get the picture taken. However, before they go, Mike receives a phone call from Mr. Brenner, the playground supervisor at Jan's school, indicating that she took another girl's bicycle and that he has an eyewitness who saw it. They refuse to believe it, but decide to find out when Jan arrives in the driveway. They all notice that Jan took over the wrong bike and discover it was just an accident. When Carol and Alice leave, Mike and the kids rush to the studio of absent-minded photographer Gregory Gaylord to get the portrait taken. The next day, Mike and Carol receive a letter from Jan's teacher, Mrs. Denhoff, indicating Jan is having trouble paying attention in class and Mike and Carol notice a problem when they ask Jan to read the letter out loud and come to the conclusion that she needs glasses, much to her dismay. The next day, Mike discovers the portrait was delivered to the house, but is able to hide it in the garage from Carol, who is frantically searching the house for their anniversary gift. After getting the glasses, Jan secretly decides not to wears them to her friends and is horrified when she runs over the portrait with her bike. With time running out, Jan is able to contact Gaylord for another re-shoot, but cannot find the original negative. On the morning of the wedding anniversary, Mike finally surprises Carol with the portrait, but discovers a glaring error: Jan is wearing her glasses in the new picture. When everyone goes upstairs to frame the portrait, Mike calls Jan back to the kitchen and she explains she ran over the portrait with her bicycle while not wearing her glasses, forcing Mike to ground Jan from the bicycle for two weeks, but confesses she sold it to pay for the new picture and he decides to retract the punishment, as she learned a lesson, and promises her they will find a way to buy the bike back. In Mike and Carol's bedroom, they finally frame the portrait and Alice confesses that the dentist actually found a set of cavities in her teeth.
