All of the location shots of Buck and company trudging across the barren planet, all of those outside rocky locations were within about 150 feet of each other. They were in Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park at what is now called the Star Trek Historical Film Site. In the background, you keep seeing the same rock formations from slightly different angles.
The collar insignia worn by Admiral Zite (played by actor Len Birman), is the same insignia used as a Colonial Warrior insignia in the original Battlestar Galactica (1978).
Mark Lenard plays the role as an alien ambassador. Perhaps his most famous or recognizable role was that of an alien ambassador (Sarek) in the Star Trek franchise.
The costume worn by Admiral Zite is recycled from a Universal Studios production - the espionage parody The Nude Bomb (1980). It was worn by the character Norman St. Savache.
This episode aired one day before series star Gil Gerard's 38th birthday (born January 23, 1943).
