George's performance

Here we are, over 10 years after the original airing of the episode, and George's performance along with Quinton's direction still make the ending extremely emotional.

Gut Wrenching Finale!
Hitchcoc5 February 2021
This is a masterful final episode for the season. George Edes is quite amazing as the man in the box. The love and attention paid by the old group is stunning. But most of all, it is the pacing, the drive leading to the conclusion. I'm not sure why the final meeting at the prison. What did Nick have to do with anything. I suppose it could have been any CSI set up for torture. This was so hard to watch for the second time (the first was 16 years ago. But the reward is incredible television with a new eye.

CSI: QT: Volume 2.

Warning: Spoilers
So, Mr. Gordon blew himself up, leaving the team to try to piece together Nick's location through his car, his daughter, and the web cam. My favorite scene has to be the surreal dream sequence where Nick watches while Doc Robbins and David perform a gruesome autopsy on him as the song Nick sang in Volume One plays in the background. The single shot that follows Sarah as she looks for Kelly Gordon's file is fantastic as well. Even though it seemed obvious all the way that Nick would survive, being a regular, there are still a lot of tense moments and the entire cast, especially Eads, get to show off their acting skill to a higher extent than any other episode. Grave Danger plays more like a movie and has been shown on Spike as such with limited commercial interruption. Grave Danger takes what has come before it in nearly five seasons and manages to go to another level. It is great television and more.

What's the reason?

Warning: Spoilers
These two brilliantly dramatic episodes have transformed the way I regard Quentin Tarantino. I had previously dismissed him (from my viewings of Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill) as being interested purely in shocking his audience. I have to apologise to him, and would be glad to see any more of his work where the emotions of the audience are given as much weight as their fight-or-flight response. The major question raised for me by these episodes is "Why is it necessary?" That is to say, the villain here seems to be motivated by his anger over his daughter's imprisonment. It would seem possible that there are many people in the USA similarly angered by the workings of the justice system. Working from figures in Wikipedia (and therefore sorry if I've got it wrong!) about 3% of the population are under correctional supervision of some sort (probation, parole or imprisoned) and about 1% are actually behind bars. This gives rise to a direct cost to the US taxpayer of $81b per annum, and a possible overall cost to the economy of $181b. The US has the highest per capita imprisonment rate in the world - about twice that of Turkey, five times that of the UK, and nearly seven times that of Canada. Can "The Land of the Free" not work out some system that will allow a more efficient (perhaps even less penal!) approach to its less law abiding citizens? Maybe even demonstrate to them that obeying the law is in their best interest? I have to say that I think that shooting them is not going to do that!

Volume 2

Grave Danger: Volume 1

Without watching a single episode of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" I finally decided to get the DVD with the Tarantino episodes. I'm not really into TV series, actually the same day (one week and one day ago) I purchased the DVD with Grave Danger I also purchased Season 1 of "The Wire" so I will be watching (as for today I have seen only the first episode of "The Wire", and is was pretty good by the way) a dramatic TV show for the first time well in years (the last non-animated show I was watching on DVD was "My Name Is Earl" and the last dramatic I think was the mini series "The Last Don" and "The Last Don II") but anyway, I came to this because of Tarantino and I had a very good introduction to "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation".

I guess the Tarantino's episodes are not that different from the rest of episodes of the show, this is normal, good stuff that certainly has proved to me that "CSI" can be a terrific show in my book. Let's see, I was obviously introduced to the cast, pretty good acting and very likable characters. Our main guy is played by George Eads and is Nick Stokes; he is our main guy for the investigation of some intestines on the street yet soon I was introduced to other main CSI guys. I was introduced to Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) and not because the scene moved to the crime lab or because Nick asked for their presence at the scene or something like that but because the officer who was with Nick asked for support since Nick disappeared from the scene of the possible crime. Soon I meet also the likable Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan), certainly Warrick will be extremely worried for Nick as any other of the CSI guys yet as Nick's partner Warrick knows what happened, why Nick instead of him came to the scene in which the intestines were found and he knows that he could be where Nick is.

So this time a CSI guy is the in great danger, "one million dollars in 12 hours or the CSI dies", certainly we have the CSI guys rushing in order to find anything that can put them closer to Nick, pretty much is all very entertaining, this first part ends leaving you extremely interested, is very effective, a great scene with Nick's kidnapper (played by John Saxon), you will rush to fast forward when the credits of volume 1 appear in the screen.

Grave Danger: Volume 2

I think the most Tarantino moments is in this part and certainly is the

Disappointing Sequel, Awful Conclusion
claudio_carvalho16 June 2007
Gil Grissom (William Petersen) meets Nick's kidnapper with the demanded ransom of one million dollars cash, and the man surprisingly blows himself up without revealing the location of Nick. Without any lead but the thumb of the criminal, the CSI team discloses his identity and the reason for such act of desperation. Fighting against time, the investigators give their best effort trying to locate Nick.

"Grave Danger Volume 2" is a very disappointing sequel, with an awful conclusion. Quentin Tarantino, as usual, uses clichés and the ideas of other successful movie in his stories, but the way Nick is rescued from the casket with the explosives beneath is ridiculous, without any fragment reaching his body. "No Man's Land" (2001) seriously shows how impossible it is to remove an object over a bouncing mine. The meeting of Nick with Kelly Gordon is shameful and purposeless. My vote is five.

Oh Poncho...

What has he done to your show? I always find something good in an « old » CSI episode. But this one two hours special, was unbelievably bad. The premise looked interesting, and I thought the opening scene was creepy. But then it went downhill from here, Tarantino style. The feel is all wrong, characters are depicted in such a cartoonish way, you see which one got the director's approval, and which one didn't. Making some of the leads like Sara, look really bad, in the process. That's the thing I hated the most about Grave Danger. It was unflattering to the CSI series itself, and tarnished its actors reputation, by agreeing to look foolish on camera for this so called TV event. At least it was back then. Now all that remains, is a weirdly directed episode, with dialogues and situations, that don't even fit the show's regular tone. To me, it's an insulting finish to an otherwise solid and entertaining CSI season.
