The Deeker gang
bkoganbing16 April 2020
The object of Stuart Whitman's hunt in this episode is the infamous 'Deeker gang which is headed by movie veteran Chester Morris. Morris has a special new recruit in his gang army deserter Jon Voight a year away from his breakout role in Midnight Cowboy. Voight's a valuable recruit as the army has made him an explosives expert.

Andrew Duggan who is the commander of the local army post joins Whitman on his hunt. He has a good reason to be with him. Voight is his estranged son.

The climax for this episode is one of the best staged from this series. Talk about turning the tables.

One of the better episodes....and the penultimate episode of the series.

When the story begins, young Bill Mason (Jon Voight) is in major trouble with the army. Eventually, this soldier even runs away...going AWOL to join up with the infamous Deeker gang.

Major Covington (Andrew Duggan) does something very uncharacteristic...he approaches Marshall Crown for help. It seems this Mason is actually Covington's estranged son and he wants to catch up with him before he gets into serious trouble...and the Deeker gang is serious trouble. So why would the George Deeker (Chester Morris) want to recruit Mason? It seems Mason is a demolition expert...something he learned in the army.

This is a very good episode starring some excellent guest stars. An interesting plot and less reliance upon the usual supporting characters make this one worth seeing.
