"The Gun" (in color) is a story about White Rook's mission to blow a bunker with limited resources.
After rolling in with an abundance of firepower to knock out a bunker, White Rook is dealt a nasty blow. They've underestimated German counterintelligence. Our ever resourceful Saunders decides to blow the bunker anyway and his great idea is met with disbelief and bellyaching.
"The Gun" portrays an abundance of combat in the first half using a good variety of weaponry. Color programing highlights the authenticity of both weaponry and uniform for the first time. The Sarge's character shines through in his quest to protect King 2 from inevitable slaughter. Persistence & determination are what Saunders is made of and without these qualities leading the way, White Rook would stagnate when moving forward is everything.
Esther & Bob Mitchell wrote a fine screenplay in which ingenuity, intestinal fortitude, and combat come together to bring about a great ending. Michael Caffey directed some excellent mini-cannon combat scenes the sound effects of which are awesome. The new color television format enhances special effects for a spectacular ending.
I found "The Gun" very entertaining. Good way to kick off Season 5.
