- Sue Ellen Ewing: [to Jamie, who's relaxing by the pool] Swimming's great for the figure. Not that you have to worry about that. Is there something else you'd rather do?
- Jamie Ewing: There's nothing else *to do.* I mean, swimming and shopping, that's all great for a change, but...
- [sighs]
- Jamie Ewing: I mean, if you're, like, on vacation or something. That's all we ever do. I guess I"m just not used to it.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: You need to work, right?
- Jamie Ewing: Yeah, I think so.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: All right. I happen to know that there's an opening at Ewing Oil.
- Jamie Ewing: At Ewing Oil? In what department?
- Sue Ellen Ewing: Well, actually, it's the receptionist at Ewing offices.
- Jamie Ewing: [sighs] The receptionist?
- [face drops]
- Jamie Ewing: Not exactly the type of job I had in mind. I mean, I don't know anything about being a receptionist. Not alone having to hang around J.R. all day. I'm sure he'd be thrilled to have me there.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: I've already talked to him about it, and believe me, he won't be a problem.
- Jamie Ewing: Right. It's not bad enough to have me hanging around the house all day, but now I'll be hanging around the office too. Nah. It's not the type of job I want.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: Well, I know that, but it doesn't have to be permanent. But it would be something for you to do until we can find you something you like.
- Jamie Ewing: I don't know.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: Well, I really felt that you'd feel that anything would be better than sitting around here all day.
- Jamie Ewing: That's true...
- Sue Ellen Ewing: Well then?
- Jamie Ewing: We'll see.
- J.R. Ewing: You know, I would have thought you'd be doing your deals with Barnes-Wentworth. I saw Barnes at your table the other night.
- Jeremy Wendell: I did have something in mind with Cliff, but it fell through. His somewhat limited success has caused him to lose perspective of the real powers in Dallas.
- J.R. Ewing: Well, it's kinda hard to lose something you never had. What did you have in mind with him?
- Jeremy Wendell: A merger. Westar to merge with and acquire Barnes-Wentworth. Mergers are still my first priority.
- J.R. Ewing: Well, if that's what this is all about, we're both wasting our time. Ewing will never merge with anything.
- Jeremy Wendell: No, let's understand each other. The last person in the world I want on my Board of Directors is you. I'm not here to talk merger with Ewing Oil.
- J.R. Ewing: Then what the hell do you want, Wendel?
- Jeremy Wendell: Straight business deal.
- J.R. Ewing: We could do that, sure.
- [and then Cliff walks in]
- Mandy Winger: [re the bouquet of flowers he brought her] You don't waste any time, do you?
- J.R. Ewing: Well, I've been known to travel in the fast track.
- Mandy Winger: How did you find me?
- J.R. Ewing: I could say that I looked your name up in the phone directory, but you have an unlisted number.
- Mandy Winger: I was getting calls from a lot of creeps and weirdos.
- J.R. Ewing: Well, I talked to the owner of the restaurant where we met, and he told me the name of your agency. The rest was easy.
- Mandy Winger: [smirks] They're not supposed to give out my address.
- J.R. Ewing: Obviously they didn't think I'm a creep or weirdo.
- Mandy Winger: Well, I'll tell you what you are. You're lucky you found me at home. I don't spend much time here.
- J.R. Ewing: I take it you're involved with someone?
- Mandy Winger: Sort of.
- Renaldo Marchetta: Renaldo, to Bobby, re: telling Charlie who her real father is: You would have to kill me to stop me. Are you really ready to do that?
- Bobby Ewing: Bobby, to Rendaldo: Whatever. You just remember what I said.
