Miss Ellie Ewing Farlow : After the funeral, I want you to go back to California, to your own life. Bobby was Bobby, but you are you, and I don't want you to think that you have to stay here and try to take his place.

Gary Ewing : Oh, I could never take his place... but I could be here for you.

Miss Ellie Ewing Farlow : And if I thought that you would be happy here, that would be wonderful. But you can't live your life as a replacement for Bobby. You're my son, and I love you with all my heart, but we don't have to be together to keep that love.
