- Buddy Sorrell's brother, "Blackie" Sorrell (from whom Buddy has been estranged for a long time), shows up at the Alan Brady Show's offices one day. Later meeting Buddy's brother alone while Buddy is out, Rob invites him to his house for dinner, not knowing of his past as a pool hustler. After dinner, knowing Rob has a pool table in the basement, Blackie not-so-innocently suggests that the two of them try playing a game or two.—aldanoli
- Buddy receives a visit at the office from his younger brother Blackie, with whom he is estranged due to Blackie's past as a pool hustler. Despite Blackie's insistence that he's turned over a new leaf and gone legitimate, Buddy doesn't believe him and kicks him out (for which Buddy later feels quietly miserable). Later, upon meeting Blackie and learning he's Buddy's brother, Rob invites him home for dinner and a friendly little game of pool in his basement. The invitation affords Blackie the opportunity to show Rob, and thereby Buddy, his true colors as a human being.—Huggo
- Buddy's kid brother, appropriately named Blackie, shows up at the office. Blackie's been an embarrassment to Buddy all his life and Buddy refuses to believe that this ne'er-do-well brother of his is the new man he claims to be. Turned away by Buddy, Blackie afterward wrangles an invitation to the Petries house after Rob mentions he has a pool table in his basement. Rob considers himself something of a pool shark but doesn't realize that Blackie once made his living as a pool hustler. When Buddy hears about it, he fears the worst.—garykmcd
- From Brazil comes Blackie Sorrell, Buddy's ne'er-do-well, pool-hustling kid brother, virtually proclaiming to be a proverbial leopard who HAS changed his spots. Past experiences leave Buddy mistrustful, and he dismisses Blackie out of hand. Rob, not knowing of the brotherly estrangement or of Blackie's past, meets Blackie at the office (with Buddy already gone home) and innocently invites Blackie over for dinner and a friendly game of pool. Seriously shaken by Blackie's earlier visit and needing to talk, Buddy drops by Rob and Laura's, only to have his worst fears confirmed.—statmanjeff

Blackie begs Buddy to believe that he has changed his old ways and is now selling real estate in South America.
Buddy has been fooled too many times and tells his brother to get lost.
Blackie shows up at the office again the next day but Buddy is away.
Rob, not knowing Blackie's history, invites his friend's brother to the house for dinner.
Blackie accepts when he finds out Rob has a pool table in the basement.
After dinner Rob asks Blackie if he'd like to play a game of pool and Laura (Mary Tyler Moore) warns him that her husband is a very good player and quite the hustler.
Blackie plays dumb and has Rob "remind him" how the game is played.
At first Blackie suggests a modest wager but the stakes get higher as he keeps loosing.
Rob protests and says he doesn't want Blackie's money but Blackie insists Rob play him for $600 to give him a chance to win back the money he is in the hole and make a profit.
Rob agrees and Blackie is makes the hustle apparent to Rob just as Buddy arrives at the house and attempts to stop the game.
Blackie Runs the table then tears up Robs check with a flourish saying it was the only way to prove to his brother that he had really changed.
