"Call me Sybil!"
ShadeGrenade15 June 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Upton is repeatedly summoned to the home of the Askey family, but can find absolutely nothing wrong with their teenage daughter Cynthia. Mrs.Askey is a large, domineering woman who is trying to marry off Cynthia to the good-looking G.P., even though the girl hates him.

In desperation, Upton sends Collier along in his place. Cynthia falls in love with him...

Another blindingly funny episode by John Cleese. He had a penchant for naming characters after friends; for instance, 'Dick Stuart-Clark' was named after 'Cambridge Circus' co-star Chris Stuart-Clark. It seems likely that the Askey family were named in honour of one of the show's directors, David Askey.

Hattie Jacques is, as ever, excellent, effortlessly stealing every scene she's in. Moira Foot was best known as 'Effie' the whispering maid in L.W.T.'s 'Hark At Barker' starring Ronnie Barker and David Jason.

As with 'No Ill Feeling!', this episode offers us a portent of future happenings in the world of comedy - one of the main characters is a dragon of a woman named 'Sybil', who is married to a rude, quick-tempered man with a moustache. Sound familiar?

Funniest moment - Mr.Askey throwing Upton out of his home, a scene which anticipates Basil Fawlty's ejection of 'Mr.Hutchison' in 'The Hotel Inspectors'.
