Saw this on the Talking Pictures channel (UK) which specialises in films and TV from yesteryear.
It has had a tricky job, trying to show the Germans as not being entirely horrible, whilst administering the Channel Islands they occupied (in this case, Guernsey).
The Brits viewed the CI as pointless to try and defend, having no real military value, but the Germans had to have a garrison there.
The series has dealt with several uncomfortable themes, this one about a child born out of wedlock. A local girl and a German soldier (now killed in battle in Russia). The boy's uncle (as SS officer with powerful connections) has arrived to try and take the boy back to the family grandparents, to continue the family name. There's a dilemma for the island commander, trying to do the right thing for the woman concerned.
