Unusually the fifth episode marks the end of the first series of Ever Decreasing Circles.
Martin and a dismayed Ann return from a soggy camping weekend. However Martin's mood sinks when he hears Paul has been drafted into a subcommittee to organise the annual charity ball.
As it is for charity they do not have much money to spend on it. Only Paul has a whole host of friends who could provide the catering and music for nothing.
Howard wants theme of the charity ball to be vicars and tarts. Martin thinks it is an excellent idea until he finds out that it was originally Paul's suggestion.
The series ends with Martin acting out of character by using under hand tactics to get one over Paul.
For Ann there is a sense of burgeoning romance as she dances cheek to cheek with Paul.
It ends with a sense of will they/won't they romance between Paul and Ann as Martin acts like a twerp.
