When the story begins, Terry Shelton (Jeff Bridges) is writing a ransom note for his own kidnapping! Huh? What this means is that Terry really hates his father and he is trying to extort money out of him. Terry's parents divorced when he was very young and he thinks his father has abandoned him and deserves to lose the ransom money. However, something unforeseen happens....his girlfriend and partner in crime has other ideas. She has a secret partner (John Beck) and the kidnapping is real....it's just that Terry doesn't yet realize it!
When Terry's dad (Carl Betz) is contacted, he turns out to be a real cowboy! Instead of dropping the money, he drops a dummy bag and then returns to kidnap one of the kidnappers. Great idea? Maybe not, as soon the father ALSO ends up being kidnapped! What can the FBI do?
This is a good episode because the tension level is high. It also is very good because several times unexpected things occur and the show kept me guessing. Overall, well worth seeing and anything but dull.
By the way, the year before this episode aired, a VERY similar one ("Tiger By the Tail") aired on "Hawaii Five-O" and is also well worth your time. It, too, features a fake kidnapping that soon becomes a real one when the 'victim's' friends decide to make it all too real.
