Cade goes in search of Crazy Eddie (Rob LaBelle), publisher of an online journal called "The Paranoid Times", in the hopes that Eddie can help him decipher the Nostradamus prophecies (called quatrains). After gaining Eddie's trust, Cade agrees to check in on Eddie's friend Dean, who Eddie hasn't heard from in days. Dean has been killed by the Gua, and at Dean's apartment Cade finds a strange silver sphere. After going through Dean's notes, they discover that he was investigating a warehouse owned by GenTech. When Cade and Eddie investigate the warehouse, they find it is a cloning lab full of what the Gua call "husks" -- human clones with no controlling intelligence. It turns out the silver sphere contains the intelligence of a Gua Acolyte (a kind of assassin) named Joshua (Roger R. Cross) which has been sent to Earth through a wormhole to help pave the way for the Second Wave.
