The character Harold Zoid, Dr. Zoidberg's uncle and a formerly famous silent hologram comedian, is an homage to Harold Lloyd, a silent movie comedian popular in the early 20th century. Zoid has the same trademark full-moon spectacles as Lloyd, not to mention strikingly similar names and mannerisms.

The gag names of the high end fashion stores in Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, are "Calvin Clone" and "Hugo Bott," parodies of popular fashion lines Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss, respectively.
One of the guys backstage at the Academy Awards says, "Just play along like we did with Marisa Tomei", a reference to to the myth that Rex Reed created that during The 65th Annual Academy Awards (1993), Jack Palance read the wrong name for the winner of Best Supporting Actress. This is, of course, untrue.
