The Captain: Real or Imagined?
JordanThomasHall3 October 2017
Family friend Dr. Jim Meade (Ralph Moody) overhears Mrs. Muir (Hope Lange) talking to herself, unknown of the ghostly state of Captain Gregg (Edward Mulhare). She begins to question whether she really is seeing ghosts and agrees to go to Philadelphia to see psychiatrist Dr. Ryan McNally (character actor Dan Tobin). He makes a great deal of sense to her in saying it's a lonely writer's delusion saying things she can't say herself while among the captain's possessions. She's convinced it's a figment of her imagination and returns to Gull Cottage treating the captain as if he doesn't really exist. Mrs. Muir further convinces her young son Jonathan (Harlen Carraher), who the captain chooses to appear to, that he does not exist. Captain Gregg is depressed to have lost the connections. Mrs. Muir struggles with which way to think. Things get complicated when the psychiatrist visits Gull Cottage. A nice premise with touches of romance and light comedy.
