Touching holiday episode is one of the series best.
mark.waltz15 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The affection between the four ladies comes to life with the women celebrating the holiday's together before preparing to go see their families. This is the episode featuring the calendar of the men of Blanche's boudoir that has Dorothy really impressed with September. Twists prevent their holiday's from going through as planned, but they learn a lesson about what family really is. The scene at Rose's job is filled with some really creepy characters and is the one weak spot of this episode. However, the final scene in the diner with Teddy Wilson is truly touching, of course ending with a humorous twist.

A Festive classic.

The girls are set to visit their families for Christmas, but the evening before setting off, they spend it together. On their way to The Airport they face an interesting hold up.

You'd expect ta Christmas episode to be a little different, Seasonally funny, it was that and some, this really was a Christmas cracker, sweet and very funny.

There are so many funny scenes to enjoy, Dorothy sat next to the man with the match, that scene was an absolute joy fest, I spat my wine out laughing, those eyes! Blanche chasing her Santa Claus, explaining her love for a sweaty man in red, laugh out loud funny.

I like that we get to see Rose dealing with her clients at work, and she's exactly what you'd expect, sweet and we'll meaning.

This was an absolute classic, 9/10.

Classic TV Xmas Countdown Episode #5
kgraovac20 December 2023
The girls exchange homemade Xmas presents, then later are held captive by a gun-toting Santa at the Crisis Center where Rose works.

THE GOLDEN GIRLS produced two Xmas episodes during the 7-season run and this is definitely the one to watch. The jokes are hilarious and the script is near-perfect save for a few gags that don't land (mostly in the second act).

It's ripe with great character moments, like Dorothy's reaction to receiving a maple syrup spigot, to Blanche sneaking the mall Santa into her bedroom and later the sequence where she gifts her friends with The Men of Blanche's Boudoir calendar - which would become one of the series' most famous scenes, capped by a corker of a line delivered by Sophia. Dorothy makes a funny CHARLIE'S ANGELS reference.

Craig Richard Nelson, who plays the firebug, also worked with Bea Arthur in the MAUDE episode "The Gay Bar" in 1977.

The final shot of the foursome looking at the snow from the diner window is now kind of poignant when you realize these four treasured ladies are no longer with us. A Must-See. 9/10.

'Twas the Nightmare Before Christmas (#2.11)

Warning: Spoilers
The girls are planning to go to their families to celebrate Christmas. But then they are held hostage by a guy in the crisis center dressed as Santa who wants someone to celebrate Christmas with him. After they leave and get to the airport they find out that they are stuck in Miami because all flights are cancelled. So the end up in a diner where the realize that the already are with a family.

Not a bad episode, but a bit weird in organizing, there seems to be no real story. We jump from presents to hostages to airports cancellations. What excited me was Sam Anderson in his pre-Lost days.I actually realized that he is also the principal on Growing pains, never saw it in him when I saw Bernard, he really did change! His character Myer was very entertaining though!
