Journey to the Center of Attention (#7.18)
ComedyFan201025 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Blanche takes Dorothy with her to a bar she often goes to.Dorothy sings a song and gets the attention of all the guys. Now when she comes she is always the centre of attention instead of Blanche and it drives Blanche mad. But her performance isn't as successful. And Sophia has a wake for herself while still being alive.

Well it was a good episode because of the charming old school bar place. It was nice to see Dorothy sing, she really did very well. And Blanche's performance was especially fun.

And we had another comedic story of Rose forgetting to tell everyone that Sophia is still alive at her wake.

Once again, Dorothy pours water on a drowning man.

Warning: Spoilers
Having sung the classic song "Hard Hearted Hannah" in its entirety on "Maude", Dorothy gets to repeat it here in the closing credits, singing at the Rusty Anchor and totally aggravating the needy Blanche. As the show wraps down to its final episode, Dorothy once again take charge for an episode that she completely scores in, proving herself to be not only a talented comic but singer and when she gets to shine as the center of attention, quite lovely. At first, she's uncomfortable at the bar, but this supposedly straight piano bar has her singing Irving Berlin ("What'll I Do?") and somehow attraction the attention of all the men where Blanche is regularly the only other woman, basically a drag queen who happens to be a woman. Activities in the bar (which includes a conga line and Blanche tying cherry stems into knots) seem out of place, but Dorothy steals every moment she's there. Then there's Sophia, deciding to stage her own funeral so she can hear what her own friends think of her. Unfortunately, Rose forgets to tell them that she's still alive which results in some very funny insults from the guests. One of them is Ann Nelson whose seemingly sweet old lady appearance hides a tough nature, something she had already shown us in the movie "Airplane!", as a regular on "Fame" (as the world's oldest secretary) and "Designing Women" as a disgruntled babysitter. It took "Golden Girls" only 7 years to cast her, usually giving these types of parts to either Ellen Albertini Dow or Meg Wyllie. In spite of its faults, this remains one of my favorite episodes with a lot of laughs.
