Ta-Tanisha wasn't convincing as the "most popular girl in school." She wasn't even nice-looking, let alone the beauty queen she was being projected as. A compliment for Ms. Bern Nadette Stanis. Had she not been casted as JJ's sister, she would have been much, much more believable as a girl JJ would flip over. The business of Marcy never speaking to Thelma in school? Thelma had no reason to care. The episode is well done, however. I love when JJ makes his family crack up, while making his speech to Marcy. You could also see the love that his family had for JJ. Curiously, Michael doesn't appear in this episode.

Ta-Tanisha as Marcy Jones
kevinolzak31 December 2016
"My Son the Lover" opens with JJ as happy as 'a rooster in a hen house,' since Marcy Jones (Ta-Tanisha), the most popular girl in school, has fallen for him. Thelma recalls that Marcy is a beauty contest winner, and capable of having any guy she wants. Marcy sweet talks James as looking too young to be JJ's father, while Florida is definitely not impressed. He's practically ready to pop the question when the time comes, only to find that her main interest in him is due to his painting her portrait: "George is really gonna love it!" Does this discourage the great lover of the ghetto? Barely five minutes! Ta-Tanisha would return as a different girl in "JJ in Trouble," this time making an accusation that would make any parent sit down. A rare episode missing Ralph Carter.
