"The Encyclopedia Hustle" brings back Ron Glass, previously seen in "Crosstown Buses Run All Day, Doodah, Doodah," who played mostly shady characters on GOOD TIMES and SANFORD AND SON before BARNEY MILLER kept him on the right side of the law. As Henry Anderson, he's going door to door selling a ten volume encyclopedia set on black history that's sure to catch Michael's interest. Florida admits they can't afford the $5 down and $2 weekly payments, confirmed by James on his return home after spending all day scraping up 5 bucks. At first he's resistant to a slick hustler, but after learning that Anderson is blind he signs on the dotted line and gives him his last five dollars. Reading the fine print afterwards the entire family realizes that their property and possessions have practically been signed away, so they have to devise a plan to get Anderson to tear up the binding contract. For once an unpaid phone bill works out in their favor!
