- Trivia"Ain't No Big Thing" was almost an unofficial second theme song for the first season. It was written by Kui Lee and recorded by many performers, including Don Ho, the Brothers Cazimero and Kawika Crowley. McGarrett alludes to the song in "....And They Painted Daisies On His Coffin" (#1.5) when he tells Big Chicken, "Ain't no big thing, brother." In "No Blue Skies" (#1.8), Joey sings the optimistic chorus. In "The Box" (#1.16) Big Chicken sings it in the shower. In "Tiger by the Tail" (#1.3) Bobby George sings it during his nightclub act.
- GoofsDanno was charged with first degree murder, yet first degree murder requires specific intent to kill with premeditation and deliberation. In this case, Danny shot at a door to break the lock, which does not demonstrate premeditation or deliberation. The most he should be charged with is second degree murder, but most likely a negligent homicide (accidental) killing.
- Quotes
Det. Steve McGarrett: [Trying to get Danny's statement] A cop pulls a gun he better remember every single detail! There's always trouble when you pull a gun, more if you fire it!... You hit somebody, and you're up to your hip pockets in it!... And if a cop kills somebody, every single fact better jibe or he's nailed to the wall!... He's guilty until he proves himself innocent!... Now that's backwards, ugly and unfair, But that's the way it is!... Now we gotta know everything there is to know right now!... So think!

This episode initially aired two days after the presidential election of 1968, so it is interesting to look at it in that context. That was an election in which nobody got a majority of the votes and almost got thrown into the House of Representatives, an election in which George Wallace, when he was still a segregationist, actually won some electoral votes and 13% of the vote.
What McGarrett says about cops being heavily and even unfairly scrutinized when they shoot somebody was true then and true now, but it is hard not to notice how everybody - including the press - is more than willing to believe the worst about Danny and this shooting. The US was in the middle of the first "soft on crime" period of time that only led to more crime in the 70s and 80s, because people often forget that which you subsidize you get more of.
Also note that Gavin McLeod who will have long time positions on TV first as Murray in the Mary Tyler Moore show and then Captain Stubing on The Love Boat is playing a slimy drug dealer here named "Big Chicken". The episode does not disclose how he got such a nickname.
