One of the better ones...

Warning: Spoilers
Although it really didn't make a lot of sense when you thought about it, the plots "Hawaii Five-O" did involving espionage were almost always the best--or at least the most exciting. But is Hawaii really this hotbed of spies?! Of course not--so you need to just turn off your brain and enjoy this episode and forget about the absurdity that once again the future of the Free World lies in the lap of Steve McGarrett!

The show begins with an odd occurrence. A guy contacts Five-O and tells them about a crime BEFORE it's going to happen! As a result, two poor suckers are set up to get caught trying to pull a seemingly pointless robbery at a military base. So why did this occur?! Soon it becomes apparent, the partner of these men was using them as a diversion for his own personal crime and vendetta. The master criminal (Clu Gulager) is a disgruntled employee who feels slighted by the US government--so much so that he kidnaps one of the top men on our side and offers to sell him to the Russians!! And, at the same time, continues to taunt Five-O and make demands for ransom from the government. Can Steve and the boys track him down or will the world descend into a era of international Communism?!

Despite the silly plot, it all worked very well. Ignoring the far-fetched plot, the show really was tightly written and having Gulager and Michael Conrad as guests sure helped as well. Well worth seeing and never dull.

A tense episode you don't want to delve too far into ;-)

The plot here is clever ... a man with a plan sets up three confederates to tie up 5-0 and everyone else in security on an Army base while he commits a different crime.

Clu Gallagher possibly goes a bit over the top as the disgruntled former officer now working as a civilian contractor, but he gets a lot of screen time as he plots the initial crime and then tries to arrange a ransom.

Now, why my title? Because I didn't buy the methods by which 5-0 solves the case ... at all. LOL On the most sparse clue, McGarrett is able to beat Clu back to his hideout. I simply didn't buy it, but you don't have to in order to enjoy the episode. :-)

Guest Stars Clu Gulagher and Michael Conrad make this a great episode!

Warning: Spoilers
Guest Stars Clu Gulagher and Michael Conrad make this a great episode!

We will overlook the obvious "Why is a State Police Officer conducting an investigation that involves international espionage and the United States Army?", because there are probably a dozen H5-0 episodes where McGarrett bumps CIA operatives, FBI agents, and U. S. Military officers out of the way while he takes over.

Clu Gulagher is perfect as the mastermind of the operation. Tense, nervous, but still in control. And Michael Conrad is more akin to Michael Meyers (Halloween), when he rips off the oxygen mask and walks out of the intensive care ward.

The acting of Anita Alberts, as character "Lana Trotter", is a bit over the top. A crazed madman has kicked her door down, then dropped dead in front of her, but she just wants McGarrett and the Police to get out of her apartment.

As another reviewer said, the clue that Danno uses to find where the kidnapped scientist is being kept, is a bit sparse. And how did McGarrett get there that fast? But that is also typical of H5-0, many episodes become a bit implausible, and are rushed at the end.

Still, a very good show, it keeps you wondering if "Jack Gulley" is going to pull it off.

I rate "Fools Die Twice" 9 Stars.
