In many of my other reviews of the season 11's episodes of "Hawaii Five-O" I have complained about the terrible quality of most of these shows in comparison to earlier ones. Fortunately, in the case of "The Spirit is Willie", this is NOT the case. In fact, it's among the best episodes of season 11 and fits in well with the rest of the series.

The show begins on a yacht. Some young guy is going scuba diving but his wife wants him to stay. In fact, she acts almost as if she had been reading the script and he'd soon be dead. This is the one weakness of this show as there is no reason to suspect this would happen as the guy had already been diving during their stay on the islands.

Soon McGarrett is called in to see the Governor. It seems that ONCE AGAIN the Governator is asking Steve to take a personal look into the case--something that seemed to happen repeatedly during season 11. This time it's because the Governor's old friend, Millicent Shand (Mildred Natwick), feels that the death of the guy is not a case of drowning--she believes the guy is still alive and faked his death, as the body was never found.

While this seems unlikely, McGarrett looks into the case. The trail leads to a psychic named Rolande (Robert Vaughn) and the psychic tells them exactly where to look in the water for the body--and they soon find it! Does this mean that he really has psychic powers and that the death was accidental? Well, there's naturally A LOT more to it than this and once again, like in "Frozen Assets" the season before, Miss Shand nearly drives McGarrett crazy due to her wacky ways.

Apart from the bad acting by the wife at the beginning, this is a very good mystery. On top of that, it is enjoyable and a bit funny. Well worth seeing and it's too bad they only made two Miss Shand episodes.

I just do not like the Millicent Shand episodes at all. I find the character insufferable. I do not find her endearing, amusing or likeable in the least. Even her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

She is an arrogant author that thinks she is smarter than everyone else and is not afraid to show it. She does not care if she is detrimental to Five-O's investigations and thinks she is above the law.

I found myself rooting for the criminals in both of her episodes. I understand where the producers came up with this character though. It was probably an attempt to keep the older viewing audience interested. Unfortunately they created the worst character in the history of the show.
