Warning: Spoilers
Little Ricky has numerous pets and of course Lucy is taking care of them. She even comments to Ethel children in the country can have a lot of pets. This is a big clue they are moving to the country.

Little Ricky brings home a puppy. First Lucy then Ricky are determined to get rid of the puppy only to be won over by the little dear . Then it's Fred saying the dog has to go until he finds out Little Ricky named his dog Fred! He explains he always names his pets after people he likes! Fred is won over too!

The problem is the dog yips and the new tenet Mr Stuart ( a much bigger grouch than even Fred!) is threatening to leave.

Ricky can't get up the nerve to tell little Ricky and leaves it to Lucy but can't do it either and ends up spending the day with little Ricky and puppy Fred . When Mr Stuart complains again Fred brings him to Lucy's trying to show him the dog is gone . Lucy must explain the dog biscuits ( saying they are hers) . Ricky comes home and doesn't realize they still have the dog. Lucy tries hiding him first in the hall closet and then the piano but it all comes out. After Mr. Stuart saying either the dog goes or he does Fred chooses the dog! Fred says he would rather live with a little dog than a big grouch.
