Inside the Actors Studio: Russell Crowe (2004)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Fun interview with Russell Crowe who talks about how he got into showbiz as a child and then we go into detail about the making of movies such as ROMPER STOMPER, L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, THE INSIDER, GLADIATOR, A BEAUTIFUL MIND and MASTER AND COMMANDER. You never really know what you're going to get when Crowe gives an interview but he's actually pretty entertaining here. Its funny seeing him early on because when he comes out on the stage he keeps his head down but he quickly livens up. Crowe really comes across great here and I think it goes to show why he's able to play just about any type of role. He talks and constantly mentions the word commitment and how when he takes a role he goes into it 100%. Just hearing him talk about how he wants his work to be excellent is something that more actors should probably go for. Even rarer to hear from an actor is Crowe talking about how the movie belongs to the director and that he, the actor, is there to work for him. A few questions come up about if one disagrees with a director what the actor should do. In today's world of stars it's rather refreshing to hear him say that the director is the boss. Crowe also talks about how damaging the weight gain in THE INSIDER was and talks about the damage his body took during GLADIATOR.
