***SPOILERS**** While waiting for his flight to L.A at San Francisco's International Airport to attend a boring national police officers conference Chief Robert T. Ironside ends up getting far more excitement then he ever expected. The plane was slightly delayed which turned out to save Ironside as well as the 100 passengers and crew lives. A bomb went off riping the plane apart with the suspicion by the police and airport security that it was Ironside who was to be the intended target. Going back to his armored paddy wagon with valet Mark Sanger, Don Mitchell, and Officer Eve Whitfield, Barbara Anderson, a baby played by twin brothers Billy & Ronnie Grosland, in different times of the Ironside episode, is found in the front seat with a massage in lipstick written on the windshield saying to whom it may concern to take good care of him. As it soon turned out the baby belonged to former stewardess Mary Evens, Nancy Malone, who's ex-husband an explosive expert Harry Higdon, Paul Carr, was just released for a mental institution.
Hampered with the task of looking after the baby, tabbed Officer Bobby, Ironside is now determined to track down both his mother Mary Evens and her ex-husband who despite being declared sane in a clear and present danger to all society. This leads to serious complications for Ironside's two assistants Officer Whitfield and Mark Sanger who have trouble connecting, mostly in nursing and feeding him, with baby Officer Bobby. For his part Ironside a life long bachelor seems to have a talent in dealing with the infant that rivals even his skilled and professional police work! It's when Mary Evens claiming to be a news reporter came to see her son Officer Bobby Ironside has a tail put on her to trap her out for blood ex-husband Harry Higdon who's been shadowing her since his release.
**SPOILERS*** Nail biting final with the crazed and determined Harry Higdon having trapped Ironside together with a squad of police in a hotel lobby and attempting to blow himself and anyone who comes near him sky high with a stick of dynamite. The wheelchair bound Robert T. Ironside calmly gives the crazed lunatic his rights to an attorney and to remain silent and before he knew it grabs the stick of dynamite right out of his hand. As it turned out Ironside took a chance and won by him suspecting that Higdon hadn't attached a blasting cap to the explosive rendering it harmless. If in fact Chief Ironside was wrong he wouldn't have been around to star in his next Iroside episode!
