Ironside vs the 1960's drug culture
sol-kay4 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
****SPOILERS**** It's when Officer Eve Whitfield's, Barbara Anderson, teenage niece Kimberely "Kim" Channing, Susan O'Connell, is picked up on a drug and drive charge that it becomes apparent that it's not the first time that she tried smoking weeds and took mind bending and hallucinating pills. With Eve's boss Chief Robert T. Ironside, Raymond Burr, stepping in to help the confused and drugged out girl he soon realizes that what Kim's been smoking and shooting up with is not that uncommon with the youths of America. As much as 30% of Kim's classmates are doing the same thing! With Kim refusing to get help Ironside has Officer Whitfield & both Det. Sgt. Ed Brown,Don Galloway, and his live in valet Mark Sanger, Don Mitchell, go undercover in Kim's high school in order to find out who's supplying the drugs or weed that she and her fellow students are getting hooked on.

The middle age Ironside, or grandpa as Kim's friends call him, soon gets very into the youth culture by rapping with them about the evils of pills and pot or weed and how they can destroy not only their but their friends and families lives as well. Meanwhile Kim who was under the care of Officer Whitfield took off to the nearest drug or pot den to get herself high and stoned out. This will not only leads to bigger problems for Kim, in going on to cocaine and heroin, but land her behind bars as a repeat offender. During one of his rap sessions with Kim's friends Ironside did make an impassion on borderline pot smoker Christine, Cynthia Hull, who didn't quite realize in what she was getting into. It's later that because of her pot smoking Christine's 13 year old kid sister Virgina got herself hooked on something far worse then pot: hallucinogenic drugs or cubes of LSD. And the person who supplied or turned her on to them was her sister's 13 year old boyfriend!

****SPOILERS**** By now with all the damage that pot or illegal drugs already did to her and her friends Kim finally decided to get help which among other things was a stay at a youth rehabilitation center for her to dry or chill out! It took a lot of effort on grandpa Ironside's part to get Kim to finally see the light and straighten herself out before it was too late. But the sad thing is that many like herself in them trying to get high on drugs and pot ended up behind bars on the street,in many cases turning tricks to get drug money, or six feet under instead!

P.S To realize just how out of control the use of drugs & pot was in the late 1960's when this Ironside episode was filmed just take into account that the last three Presidents of the United States, Bill Clinton GW Bush & Brack Obama, were all admitted pot smokers back then as well!
