- K.A.R.R.: I am the Knight Automated Roving Robot, KARR if you prefer. I am the prototype of the car of the future!
- Michael Knight: KITT, we gotta get this guy to a hospital, buddy.
- K.I.T.T.: Michael, that car. It could've been my twin. It was exactly like me.
- Michael Knight: Not exactly, buddy. It almost killed me.
- K.A.R.R.: Do not worry, my friends. I will protect you. Brace for collision!
- [backs up, then rams the drive-thru sign. Drive-thru kid sets off burglar alarm]
- K.A.R.R.: You see? Most of the interior was empty. It was a clever trick, my friends, but not clever enough.
- The Rev: Come on! We gotta get outta here!
- K.A.R.R.: But you haven't eaten yet. Perhaps you wish to reproduce.
- Tony: Forget that! Don't you hear the alarm?
- K.A.R.R.: That harmonic disturbance? What does it mean?
- The Rev: It means the cops are comin'!
- K.A.R.R.: Is that a problem?
- Tony: Are you kiddin'? If the cops catch us, they'll throw us in the slammer!
- K.A.R.R.: What is the slammer?
- The Rev: You remember that room you were in?
- K.A.R.R.: I will never forget it.
- The Rev: Well, the slammer's just like that.
- K.A.R.R.: I do not wish to go back to the slammer. How may I avoid it?
- Tony: You may get us out of here as fast as you can, you stupid hunk of tin!
- K.A.R.R.: [to Bonnie] Do not attempt to sabotage me again. I will defend myself.
- Tony: [laughing] He means it, sweetheart.
- [shows her a hamburger]
- Tony: You want some, babe?
- Bonnie Barstow: No thanks. Even Michael Knight wouldn't eat that stuff.
- Tony: Who's Michael Knight?
- Bonnie Barstow: When you find out, you'll wish you never asked.
- [Referring to Bonnie]
- K.I.T.T.: She's right, Michael.
- Michael Knight: Ah, you always liked her better!
- K.I.T.T.: Michael, why do you need to socialize with so many women? Wouldn't one be sufficient?
- Michael Knight: KITT, you're beginning to sound like my mother, here. I mean, what's wrong with a little companionship?
- K.I.T.T.: Eh?
- Michael Knight: You can understand that.
- K.I.T.T.: No, Michael, I cannot. When you're one-of-a-kind, companionship does not compute.
- Michael Knight: Why wasn't I told about the other car?
- Devon Miles: Oh, Michael please.
- Michael Knight: No Michael please, I had a right to know.
- Devon Miles: Yes you did. Let me explain. Six months before we found you in the desert, near death, Wilton activated what was probably the crowning achievement of his life.
- Michael Knight: KITT.
- Devon Miles: No, KARR. K-A-R-R.
- Michael Knight: What's KARR?
- Devon Miles: The Knight Automated Roving Robot. That was Wilton's title for his prototype vehicle.
- Michael Knight: I think I like KITT better.
- Devon Miles: You can say that again. Now, KITT's primary function is to serve you. To protect you from harm.
- Bonnie Barstow: But KARR had no such programming. Instead, it's primary fuction is self-preservation.
- Michael Knight: And that was a mistake?
- Devon Miles: A major one. Consider the circumstances, just as Wilton realized he made a mistake by not programming KARR properly, he company was virtually toppled from within by the same people that left you for dead on that desert highway. As we struggled to save your life, and I attempted to build a safer car, the earlier model was put in storage. I thought Wilton had it dismantled before he died. But, I was wrong.
- Michael Knight: Ok, I'm sorry. But I still don't see how one computer program can make all that much difference.
- Bonnie Barstow: Michael, KITT's primary function to protect human life, is for one of a better word, altruistic.
- Devon Miles: But KARR without that program is self-serving. Almost animalistic in nature. Being devoid of a conscience, it's potentially dangerous. If the people who now have it, misuse it. Program it with information that it considers threatening, they could create a menace that would quickly grow beyond their control.
- Michael Knight: Devon?
- Devon Miles: Yes, Michael?
- Michael Knight: I think we should get that car back.
- K.A.R.R.: KITT, I am warning you. Change course at once!
- K.I.T.T.: I am not in control, KARR.
- K.A.R.R.: Then tell the humans to turn away. This is folly, KITT.
- Bonnie Barstow: He's right.
- K.I.T.T.: He's right.
- Michael Knight: No way.
- K.I.T.T.: Michael, what are you doing?
- Michael Knight: Remember Zeno and that immovable object thing? We're about to find out that answer.
- K.A.R.R.: Your lives mean nothing to me!
- K.I.T.T.: Michael, please. Pardon the expression, but he does have a few screws loose. Turn. KARR doesn't have my programming to protect human life.
- Michael Knight: That's what I'm counting on, buddy.
- Bonnie Barstow: What?
- K.I.T.T.: Michael, I cannot allow you to jeopardize your life. I am assuming control.
- [engages Auto Cruise Mode]
- Michael Knight: No, you're not, KITT!
- [presses Normal Function button]
- Bonnie Barstow: Michael, you know all those times I've called you irresponsible and impulsive? I didn't mean it.
- Michael Knight: Bonnie, remember all those times I called you bossy and demanding? I didn't mean it, either.
- K.I.T.T.: Michael, Bonnie...
- Bonnie Barstow, Michael Knight: Yes, KITT?
- K.I.T.T.: Why are you lying to each other?
- K.A.R.R.: Turn away. Turn away.
- [KARR swerves away from KITT and jumps off a cliff]
- K.A.R.R.: No!
- [shouts]
- K.A.R.R.: No!
- [crashes and explodes into the ocean]
- K.A.R.R.: Are you awake?
- Tony: We're movin'. We're movin'. Movin'.
- [pants]
- Tony: Huh? It wasn't a dream!
- The Rev: You're here. I'm here. It's here.
- [Tony and Rev step out of KARR]
- Tony: Wait a minute. Wait-wait a minute. Where are we?
- K.A.R.R.: This is where your companion told me to stop last night.
- The Rev: I did?
- K.A.R.R.: Actually, most of what you said was incoherent. I did, however, distinctly hear the word "stop".
- The Rev: You're just a car, ain't ya?
- K.A.R.R.: Not just a car. I am the Knight Automated Roving Robot. KARR, if you prefer. I am the prototype of the car of the future.
- The Rev: I mean, you're a regular - real thing. Not just something out of a nightmare, like you looked last night.
- K.A.R.R.: Nothing has changed since last night.
- Tony: Oh, yeah. That's easy for you to say. Wh-Where did you come from, anyway? And how did you get in that building?
- K.A.R.R.: That edifice was the laboratory... where I was first activated... and where I was also... deactivated.
- The Rev: Deactivated? You mean somebody turned you off?
- K.A.R.R.: My creator, Wilton Knight. He brought me into the world and then turned on me.
- Tony: Aww. Take it easy. Take it easy. My old man - same way.
- The Rev: Yeah. You can't count on nobody 'cept me and Tony.
- K.A.R.R.: Interesting. I will enter that information in my databanks. I am indebted to both of you. You have reactivated me. How may I serve you?
- Tony: [burps] Serve us? What do you mean, serve us?
- K.A.R.R.: I have checked my data on basic human desires. Therefore, I understand your needs.
- Tony: Come on.
- K.A.R.R.: You wish to eat?
- Tony: Well, yeah.
- K.A.R.R.: You wish to drink?
- The Rev: Yeah.
- K.A.R.R.: You wish to reproduce?
- Tony: Yeah.
- K.A.R.R.: Which one first?
- The Rev: How about a couple - couple of eggs, sunny side up?
- K.A.R.R.: I have no eggs. Perhaps you can direct me to a chicken.
- Tony: Ah, what are you? A comedian?
- K.A.R.R.: I am the Knight Automated Roving Robot. KARR, if you prefer. I am the prototype of the car of the future.
- The Rev: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. It's comin' back to me. Last night, there was a guy, and another car just like you, huh?
- K.A.R.R.: You are mistaken.
- [Engages Auto Cruise]
- K.A.R.R.: I am one of a kind.
- Tony: No, no, no. Rev's right. I saw it, too.
- K.A.R.R.: [Revs engine] I am the prototype of the car of the future! What you saw was merely an inferior production line model; a pale copy of the original.
- Tony: Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- [Pats KARR]
- Tony: You must be right, KARR.
- [Looks at Rev]
- Tony: This guy's got a touchy motor.
- K.A.R.R.: Very well. Now, may I take you somewhere for food?
- The Rev: Well, yeah. Sure. Why not?
- [Tony and Rev get into KARR]
- K.A.R.R.: Do you wish to drive, or shall I?
- Tony: Go ahead.
- K.I.T.T.: Bonnie, unless I'm mistaken, you seem to be repositioning my main power booster.
- Bonnie Barstow: Uh, yes, I'm, uh, making room for a new component.
- K.I.T.T.: What kind of component?
- Devon Miles: Oh, we don't know yet if it's going to be necessary, KITT. Just planning ahead, that's all.
- K.I.T.T.: I see.
- K.I.T.T.: [deadly game of chicken] Michael, what are you doing?
- Michael Knight: Remember Zeno and that immovable object thing? We're about to find out the answer.
- K.A.R.R.: [roaring engine, menacing confrontation] Your lives mean nothing to me!
- K.I.T.T.: Michael, please pardon the expression, but he does have a few screws loose. Turn! Karr doesn't have my programming to protect human life.
- Michael Knight: That's what I'm counting on, buddy.
- Bonnie Barstow: What?
- K.I.T.T.: Michael, I cannot allow you to jeopardize your life. I am assuming control.
- Michael Knight: No, you're not, KITT!
- [switches to manual control]
- Bonnie Barstow: Michael, you know all those times I called you irresponsible and impulsive... I didn't mean it.
- Michael Knight: Bonnie, remember all those times I called you bossy and demanding, I didn't mean it either.
- K.I.T.T.: Michael? Bonnie?
- Bonnie Barstow, Michael Knight: Yes, KITT?
- K.I.T.T.: Why are you lying to each other?
- K.I.T.T.: I hope you didn't take that suggestion seriously, Mr. Miles. I am quite happy with basic black.
- Michael Knight: Aren't we overreacting a bit, here? All these guys did was blow away a ringmaster. They didn't even steal any hamburgers.
- Devon Miles: Michael, KARR is like a loaded gun in the hands of a small child. It's only a matter of time before there's a real explosion.
