When discussing Kamen's possible motive, Schiff tells McCoy, "Don't jump over the canyon on your motorcycle". He is referring to an attempt by Robert "Evel" Knievel to jump the Snake River Canyon on a rocket powered motorcycle in 1974.

E.A.D.A. Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) tells Erik Hanson (Holter Graham) that he could get charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance for selling heroin to his girlfriend, a class B felony. Actually, five different degrees of criminal sale of a controlled substance exist in New York: 5th degree is a class D felony; 4th degree is a class C felony; 3rd degree is a class B felony; 2nd degree is a class A-II felony; and 1st degree is a class A-I felony. Which degree a suspect is charged with depends largely on the amount of the controlled substance that the suspect is caught selling. The small amount of heroin that Hanson sold to his girlfriend would normally result in a 5th-degree criminal charge. However, since Hanson's girlfriend was under the age of 21, the charge is automatically elevated to a criminal sale in the 3rd degree. Also, harsher charges could result from selling a controlled substance on the grounds of a school or daycare center or from selling in an area that is accessible to the public that is within 1000 feet of the school or daycare property line. Quantity isn't a factor in the charge either: the criminal sale of any amount of a controlled substance (even a misdemeanor amount) in or near a school will cause a suspect to be charged with a class B felony.
