While not the first episode aired after 9/11, this was the first one filmed after 9/11. You can tell the change by the number of American flags in the background, increased uniformed police presence and then a reference to the Towers falling by A.D.A. Serena Sutherland.
This episode appears to be based on the following cases/incidents:
- The ongoing debate on whether extreme racism meets the criteria for a delusional mental disorder.
- The 1998 James Byrd, Jr. case.
- The Joseph Paul Franklin (a.k.a. "The Racist Killer") case in the late 1970s and early 1980.
- The 1999 Los Angeles Jewish Community Center shooting involving Buford O. Furrow, Jr.
Dennis Boutsikaris has played three different characters throughout the course of the series:

- Episode 3.4 The Corporate Veil (1992) - Defence Attorney Richard 'Dick' Berkley.
