THE LONER – The Ordeal Of Bud Windom –1965 Lawman Lloyd Bridges is escorting a prisoner, Sonny Tufts, to jail to face a charge of murder. When they stop to water the horses, a voice calls out from some nearby bushes. "Drop your gun lawman!" Bridges does as he is told and drops his gun-belt. Out of the underbrush steps a 15 year Jeff Bridges with a rifle. The boy tells L. Bridges to take the handcuffs off of his father, Tuffs. Lloyd however jumps the boy and relieves him of the rifle.

L.Bridges rides Tuffs and the boy into town where he releases Jeff and hands Tuffs to the law. Jeff refuses to believe that his father killed anyone and keeps trying to get himself arrested. He wants to be with Tufts in the cells.

The next day they hear that, Allen Jaffe, a gunman buddy of the murdered man is coming to town. He intends to kill Tufts. Jeff Bridges steals a horse and gun and rides out to stop Jaffe.

Lloyd rides out after the lad. He manages to stop Jaffe from killing the boy. He then drags Jeff back to the jail house where Tufts admits to him that he is a murderer.

A quick half hour duster that is better than I make it sound. The director was actor turned director, Paul Henried. Most will recall him from the 1943 film, CASABLANCA, where he played Victor Laszlo.

The series producer was Rod Serling. (b/w)
