Jin is notable in that he is the only major character who was purportedly unable to speak English before arriving on the island. In Hurley's dream sequence, Jin speaks flawless American English, as actor Daniel Dae Kim grew up in Pennsylvania. In actuality, he was out of practice speaking Korean before he got the role of Jin, since he had last used it as a teenager to speak with older relatives. He was coached on set by a dialect coach and co-star Yunjin Kim to speak Korean as well as someone who had lived there all his life.
Tito, Hugo Reyes' grandpa, is portrayed by Archie Ahuna. Ahuna was the series' special effects supervisor and not an actor. He first appeared as Tito in Numbers (2005).
Randy Nations, Hugo's boss at the Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack, was later John Locke's boss at the box factory, as seen in the episode Walkabout (2004).
The character of Libby was originally written to be in her 40s or 50s with Jennifer Jason Leigh in mind to play the part. Instead, the role went to the much younger Cynthia Watros who did not believe she stood a chance of gaining the part. When she did, she immediately moved to Hawaii with her twin daughters.
