The Art Deco Hotel shown on Burgh Island was also featured in Agatha Christie's Poirot episode "Evil Under the Sun".
Tinker's full name is revealed: Archibald Bertram de Vere Dill!
The hotel used on Burgh Island is a working hotel which adheres almost completely to the Art Deco style of decor; all furniture, fixtures and fittings are genuine late 1920s/early 1930s and many guests dress up in the clothes of the era when staying there.
The island is tidal and gets cut off from the mainland twice a day.
Lovejoy is shown arriving at a railway station called Bigbury-on-Sea. This is artistic license - Bigbury-on-Sea has never had a railway station: the nearest railway station (which closed in 1963) was at Kingsbridge, about 10 miles away by road.
Burgh Island and its surrounding coastline was used as the setting for the Agatha Christie's Poirot episode of Evil Under The Sun (2001). Richard Vernon (Roger Nettleton) appeared in the Peter Ustinov film version of Evil Under The Sun (1982) as Flewitt, a director of the Trojan Insurance Company
