Warning: Spoilers
When the supplies have been cut off by the enemy, Henry must institute an austerity order. Each of the major staff is given a task to make due until supplies can return. Heat is cut down, food is rationed; even toilet paper is at a premium (as well as any other item made from paper). This episode contains one of MASH's greatest lines. As Henry sits in his office he notices most of his desk is gone (parts to be used for firewood). He say, "Radar, this is awful. A man leaves for a few minutes and someone cuts off his legs and steals his drawers." To conserve fuel, people are forced to bunk together, leading to a kind of "Night at the Opera" crazy scene where cots cover every square inch of the floor, forcing people to step over each other and the edginess is hilarious.

Electric Brassiere

In this episode there is a shortage on all items during a supply cutoff. All of the men are sequestered into one tent. At one point, Colonel Blake leaves the tent to go relieve himself. Captain Pierce notices that Major Burns is not bundled up like the rest of his tentmates and asks him why he is not cold.

Major Burns replies that he has hypothyroidism and therefore has a very low body temperature. At that point, Captain McIntyre reaches up to feel Major Burns's hammock and feels his feet. It is then revealed that Major Burns is wearing electric socks keeping him warm. This causes a scuffle trying to get his socks off of him.

At that point, corporal Klinger mentions that he has an electric bra like that.

The question then becomes if he has an electric bra, why isn't he wearing it?

One of my favorite episodes

In this episode of MASH, all of the major characters get solid laugh lines. A supply line cut to the 4077th by the enemy leads to the survival of the "fuel-ist" literally. "oh, they'll burn anything to keep warm" Radar tells Col. Blake... and after Henry's desk gets amputated..."to cut off a man's legs, and steal his drawers"...solid laugh fest. Humor to relieve stress is rampant here. The interchange between Klinger and Frank Burns is priceless!

This is a solid ensemble episode. Everyone gets to shine. As an actor myself, I enjoy ensemble plays. This is one of the classic early episodes.

Enjoy!!!

Early MASH at its best
rynik-7662422 October 2020
The first three years were the funniest and this episode epitomizes that. The fast pace of humor and witty banter, as well as interplay of the characters during this comical crisis. was unlike that of any other comedies before or since.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big fan of M*A*S*H, and I must admit I felt quite sorry for Colonel Blake with him losing his desk and all, like quite seriously, where were the military police to guard his office. But in a way, the slapstick component of the first three seasons and the Hawkeye-Trapper John-Blake-Burns quartet could only last so long. With M*A*S*H building its audience as it reached the end of season two, who would have thought by the end of season three the quartet would be abruptly cut in half with Blake and Trapper John departing with little notice. For me, it's season four onwards that are my favorites. Anyway, in this episode we have Jeff Maxwell returning as Igor, and in 2018 he and superfan Ryan Maxwell got together to co-host the M*A*S*H Matters podcast, which is superb. One of their guests was Kellye Nakahara, who of course was famous for playing Nurse Kellye.
