The latest obstacle in Dobie winning the affections of Thalia is the perpetual suit-wearing Milton Armitage. In Thalia's mind, Milton's suits represent his wealth. Dobie wants to fight fire with fire by wearing suits like Milton, but he knows he can't afford to buy a suit let alone a wardrobe like Milton's. With a little unwitting help from Maynard, Dobie talks Mr. Ziegler, the local menswear store owner, to loan him a suit a day to act as a walking billboard so to speak. Dobie figures there is no way he can lose the battle with Milton, as Milton's suit closet is only sixteen feet wide, whereas Mr. Ziegler's store is one hundred twenty feet wide. Despite Dobie not owning the suits he ends up wearing which he wants kept secret especially from Thalia and Milton, other aspects of this battle may end up swaying Thalia in one direction or another.
