Very funny
Rrrobert13 July 2019
One of the funniest episodes so far.

The relentlessly chirpy (and irritating) new receptionist at WJM is a forgotten childhood acquaintance of Mary's. She is soon imposing herself on Mary, who - along with everyone else - has trouble saying no.

All the elements are well done and the story breezes along. Mary's predicament is well portrayed and relatable. Lou and Rhoda are extra funny here.

Twinks is back!
planktonrules6 February 2024
Pat Finley played a very annoying character in an early season one episode, "Divorce Isn't Everything". Oddly, instead of waiting to re-use the actress in a later season, she was brought back for season one's "A Friend in Deed" and once again she plays an incredibly annoying lady. Now I am NOT saying Finley was bad in these roles...she was supposed to be an annoying person and did a good job with both parts*.

WJM has a new chirpy and huggy receptionist, 'Twinks' (Finley). It seems she knew Mary from long ago...at summer camp. Oddly, Twinks has never let go and much of her time and personality revolves around this camp...and she even is in charge of some sort of newsletter for the campers! And, when she goes out for an evening with Mary, ALL she talked about was camp! Clearly the phrase 'get a life' comes to mind about Twinks...and Mary, being an overly nice person, doesn't have the heart to tell Twinks to get lost or at least STOP talking about camp! But she doesn't and Twinks immediately assumes Mary is her best friend for life...and asks her and Rhoda (who she just met) to be her Maid of Honor at her upcoming wedding!

This is a funny episode that might make you cringe a bit. I did like that at the end, Mary DID tell Twinks what she thought of her...even if it didn't help! Well worth seeing...especially so you can get a load of the dresses!!

*Finley also played an ongoing role on "The Bob Newhart Show" and played his sister....a very, very different sort of character in pretty much every way. And the show, incidentally, was also made by MTM...Moore's production company.

Solid and funny episode !

Warning: Spoilers
Mary is reunited with an old pal that just happens to get a job at the TV station and ends up causing all sorts of problems for everyone. Mary met this woman at camp nearly 20 years previously. The woman is simply wacky, and doesn't seem to realize it. I don't wish to spoil the show for everyone,I'm not going to give away the whole plot. It is well-worth watching, the lady actress ''Pat Finley" that plays the part of Mary's old friend 'Twinks' does a fine job,her character is convincingly neurotic but funny. This is a very good episode.

Mary Continues to Be Spineless
Hitchcoc1 February 2017
A new receptionist at the station turns out to be someone that Mary went to camp with 18 years previously. Mary barely remembers her. Her whole life has revolved around her experiences at that camp. She is also incredibly insensitive and tiresome. She wraps Mary around her finger and alienates everyone she meets. Somehow, people can't say no to her. Mary ends up being asked to be her maid of honor in her wedding. The whole thing with the brides maids dresses is hilarious. Rhoda is at her very best in this one although she gets taken for a ride as well. Lou is particularly good as "Twinks" even gets him to participate in her madness. Not the best episode, but this actress is quite good and makes herself unquestionably one of the most obnoxious people we've ever seen.
