Sad transition
Rrrobert20 October 2019
Lou is despondent over the breakdown of his marriage, and has started dropping in on Mary every evening. He asks her to visit estranged wife Edie (Priscilla Morrill) and report back. Mary eventually agrees to this despite feeling incredibly awkward about it.

Serious situation but basically played as a comedy and it is all highly effective. The humour comes naturally from each of the regulars. Mary Tyler Moore does some great comedy acting. Ted has some really funny moments too, like the aftershave bit.

Lou and Edie...One More Try
Hitchcoc14 February 2017
With his separation continuing and not knowing what to do with himself, Lou has camped himself out at Mary's place. He comes to her place like Dad arriving after work. He demands food and television. Mary, of course, can't tell him to get lost. He eventually asks her to spy on his wife, to see how she's doing. This leads to a dinner date at her new place and things are not very comfortable. It's also not very comfortable for the audience because he really is hurting but he's so damned stuck in his ways that nothing is going to happen. The attention paid to him is kind of funny, but it's just a a little sad for a show that packs such a wallop.
