Ted carried $500 bills in his wallet. The $500 bill, which had President William McKinley on it, was printed from 1945 until 1969, although they continue to be legal tender.
Ted (humorously) mentions what his five life goals are, and one of them involves Ms. Marlo Thomas. Throughout the run of the series, there were various references to Ms. Thomas - almost all made by Ted (one was a dream of Ted 'involving Marlo Thomas and Indira Gandhi'). These were 'in-jokes' to Ms. Moore. Prior to beginning work on what would become this iconic series, Ms. Moore had several set-backs, after the huge success of The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961). One of the last of these happened at a film premiere, Ms. Moore was attending, at which she was pushed out of the way, by a group of paparazzi, with one adding; 'here comes Marlo Thomas'. Ms. Thomas was currently riding the popularity, due to the success of her eponymous series, in which she starred as a single career woman - a forerunner to this series.
