Can You Say "Restraining Order"?
Hitchcoc10 February 2017
I know that I am writing this in 2017, but I'd forgotten how uncomfortable this episode made me, even when it first aired. Stuart Margolin (who we probably remember from "The Rockford Files) meets Mary on a blind date. He immediately "falls" for her and begins to harass her. No matter what she says, he won't go away. He puts up a billboard with their names on it. He handcuffs her so she has to go to lunch. On and on. This is really sick behavior. She begins to not answer her phone or go out of her apartment except for work. Even the finale, which I guess is supposed to be embarrassing to Mary, is not very satisfying. And it's all because she doesn't want to hurt his feelings.

Too much
Rrrobert24 September 2019
Another episode where Mary endures an uncomfortable situation to avoid telling a pushy or persistent person 'no' and hurting their feelings. This idea was well done in 'A Friend in Deed', and 'The Care and Feeding of Parents'.

Here painfully unfunny joker Warren Sturges (Stuart Margolin) decides he loves Mary after just one date and figures that with persistence, she will come to love him too. And we really do mean persistence.

Mary Tyler Moore does do some great comedy acting in this, especially in the opening scenes and in the climax, but I didn't really like this episode. Warren is so incredibly boorish that I find it very difficult to believe Mary didn't halt things right away. And the things she couldn't stop are so extreme and embarrassing it is more uncomfortable than funny.

Stalker

I have to remember that stalking was not a crime yet and what women put up with in the 1970's. I find it fascinating that it's addressed with humor. I have to believe Mary Tyler Moore used her platform to expose the issues not considered yet.

Enjoyable and funny !

Warning: Spoilers
Stuart Margolin plays a hilarious part,as a boorish blind-date of Mary's. He is a goofball and a practical joker with a lot of energy,he won't quit! After several cringeworthy incidents,Mary gets fed-up and tells her admirer to bug-off,but even this doesn't go as expected.Ridiculously over the top behavior by Stuart Margolin makes for some goofy comedy. As for other reviewers that didn't like this episode because it made them feel uncomfortable,I say how silly can you get,it is just a TV show for goodness sake !
