Carol was at the party as the date of a hockey player Jim (Lyle Waggoner of "The Carol Burnett Show") and Mrs Naugatuck is helping with the service. Arthur paints the picture of himself as a saintly man while Vivian is flirtatious with Jim. He says Vivian broke the punch bowl. Vivian then portrays herself as an innocent victim of Jim's advances and that an angry Arthur broke the punch bowl. Carol then arrives and tells of how Arthur, Vivian and Mrs Naugatuck were all drunk. The funniest scene is when we see how the punch bowl was really broken.
